How to Get 20+ Years Out of a Hampshire Resin Driveway
Most resin-bound driveways we install across Hampshire are still performing well past year ten - but only when the base was right at the start and the light annual care routine actually happens. Here's what lifespan, maintenance, repair and guarantee cover really mean in practice.
Example: 9-year-old 38m² Buff resin driveway in Fleet (GU51) - light surface fading only, base and bond fully intact after inspection.
Annual Care Schedule
| When | Do | Don't |
|---|---|---|
| Once a year | Sweep debris, pressure wash on fan setting, nozzle 30cm+ from surface | Use a pencil-jet nozzle close to the surface |
| As needed | Rinse spilt oil or solvents promptly | Leave chemical spills to soak in |
| Ongoing | Let colour dry back naturally - resin looks slightly duller when wet | Re-sand or weed-treat like block paving - resin needs neither |
How Long Should It Actually Last?
UV-stable aliphatic resin does not yellow the way cheap aromatic systems do, and because the aggregate is fully encapsulated there is nothing to shed or shift over time. Properly installed on a sound base, a Hampshire resin driveway should comfortably clear 20 years of daily use.
When Repair Beats a Full Replace
Small impact marks or delamination under roughly half a square metre are usually repairable, though colour-matching aged stone is never perfect. Cracking that comes back after a patch almost always means the base moved - fixing that properly matters more than the patch itself. We would only recommend full replacement once damage covers more than about a tenth of the drive.
What the 10-Year Guarantee Actually Covers
Our written guarantee covers workmanship, surface integrity and drainage performance from the day we hand the drive over - it does not stretch to new tree-root heave that wasn't there at install, external impact damage, or chemical attack after completion. A guarantee only means something in writing, from a real trading identity.
Quick answers
Does a resin driveway need resealing?
No - unlike block paving, there's no re-sanding or resealing cycle. An annual wash is the whole routine.
What actually shortens a resin driveway's life?
A weak sub-base, wet aggregate at mix time, installing below 5°C, or the wrong resin spec for the job.
Is every crack a sign I need a new driveway?
Not necessarily - small, isolated patches are often repairable. Widespread cracking from base movement is the one that usually means replace.
