Booked a Resin Driveway? Here's What Actually Happens Day by Day
Knowing the installation sequence helps you spot a good installer before you sign — and plan the week around losing your drive for a day or two. This guide walks Hampshire homeowners through a real resin-bound install, from the survey to parking on the finished surface. Prices run £65–£110 per m² fully installed, with a written 10-year guarantee on every job.
Example: 30m² Pearl resin-bound overlay on sound tarmac, Havant (PO9), laid in one day and driven on the following afternoon.
Your Week at a Glance
- Before we arrive: clear the drive, move cars to the road, and let neighbours know about a van and mixer for 2–4 days.
- Day 1: base prep — cleaning and priming for an overlay, or excavation and MOT Type 1 for a full rebuild.
- Day 1–2: edging, drainage channels and manhole recess covers fitted.
- Pour day: resin and aggregate mixed and trowelled to 15–18mm. Stay off it.
- +4–6 hours: safe to walk on.
- +24 hours: safe to drive and park on. Written guarantee handed over.
What to Ask About the Base Before You Sign
Ask every installer how they will check the base and what happens if the existing tarmac or concrete is not sound. A quote that assumes an overlay without a site survey is a warning sign. Base preparation should be itemised, not hidden — it is where cheap quotes cut corners, and where most failed resin drives we see across Hampshire went wrong.
Why Pour Day Depends on the Weather
Resin needs dry conditions and a reasonable temperature to cure clear and hard. A good installer will reschedule rather than lay in rain, even if it is inconvenient. That flexibility protects the finish — and with our fixed-price quotes, a weather move never costs you extra.
After Handover: The First Few Weeks
Avoid sharp turning on the spot with power steering for the first week, and keep oil and solvent spills off the surface. A light brush and an occasional low-pressure rinse is all the care it needs. Our lifespan guide explains how to keep it looking new for 20+ years.
Quick answers
Will I need to be home during the install?
Only at the start and at handover — we need access to an outside tap and a clear drive.
Can my drive be done in one day?
Small overlays on sound tarmac often can. Dig-outs, new edging or drainage usually take 2–4 days.
Is the finished surface permeable?
Yes — resin-bound is porous and SuDS-compliant. See our SuDS guide.
